5/5/16 Robotics Nationals!

This is Elizabeth, hijacking Maggie’s blog.

Most moms brag about their kids being in football, baseball, or lacrosse. I want to brag about my brainchild, Jamie, and all the great young men and staff of the Brother Rice High School Robotics Club.

This past weekend, the guys took the number one spot in the tournament sponsored by MATE (Marine Advanced Technology Education) and now are headed to Texas – specifically, NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. Having won first place overall at MATE’s Midwest Regional Championship, scoring the most points in the pool and for the engineering presentation, the Brother Rice Robotics Club will compete against other teams from CONUS, Hawaii, Canada, Bermuda, Egypt, China, Scotland, Russia, and Turkey.

What a fantastic achievement! (I have to give credit to the teachers, Mr. Mostyn and Mr. Gamboa, for the informational packet, as I lifted my information from there.)

What’s the Robotics Club anyway? The Club engineered and built an underwater robot, or ROV, the Edmund MK 2.5. They’ve done all the work, put in the hours, and now, their hard work and dedication is paying off in a big way.

The guys and Edmund MK 2.5 will compete at in the “NBL” pool (Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory) at the space center. This pool is usually closed to the public, and is used for astronauts to practice their space walks.

The competition is in June. We are all scrambling to get our Security Clearances in order. There’s a meeting tomorrow night, and I’ll have more details then.

Although I can’t take Maggie with (although I can just imagine her in the pool – !) we do hope to meet fellow blogger (extraordinaire) and sci-fi/space buff cb from contrafactual.com. Countdown, Houston!

This is such an exciting time. I am so proud of my son and all the team members.

Congratulations, and GO CRUSADERS!

Your friend,

Seriously cool. If you need security clearance I assume that I just can’t show up to watch 😦

Will plan to meet you and Jamie near or at your hotel during your stay for a meet-up.
