10/30/15 The Hurtin’ Unit

I’d show you pictures, but it’s too painful.

The human Jamie is one hurtin’  unit.

First, he had the now-famous strep and sinus infection. This morning, he awoke to a red, swollen, itchy, rash on his arms, that quickly spread to his legs, feet, elbows, and knees. (Mom and the doctor are on it though, so no need to worry.) He’s just mighty uncomfortable.

Then, Mom had to take Jamie to get the bottom braces on. As long as he was in the chair, the orthodontist tightened his top ones, too. Food is now just a rumor to Jamie, he of the aching teeth and jaws.

To top it all off, Jamie must have picked up something on the floor of the locker room, because his toe is infected! Mom noticed him limping this afternoon. She took care of that quickly, and his foot feels better, but Mom assured him the toe will hurt for a couple of days. Re-reading this post, I think Mom is getting her “Doctor” stripes, while Jamie is getting his “Patient” ones! I did jump on the bed to lick Jamie’s foot and tell him I hope he feels better, but Mom shoed me away from his toes before I could give him a kissy. Foiled, again!

Erik, on the other hand, left early this morning ( it was still dark) for the airport. He and his friends are spending Halloween in Las Vegas (I know, I know) and he is excited to see Britney Spears. But there was a problem with the cabin pressure in the airplane, and they had to make an emergency landing and switch planes. Erik called Mom to assure her he was safe, but he said, “I swear, Mom, I’ve never had such pain in my head before – I thought it was going to explode like little chunks of watermelon.” A grisly image, to be sure!

As of this writing, Erik’s new plane has landed and he is off to enjoy exciting adventures in the desert. There seem to be no ill effects to his head. Erik and his traveling companions are going to investigate a refund from the airline.

Mom gave me a treat and says she’s lucky nothing has happened to me, since it’s been a ruff day for her sons!

7/25/15 Share A Smile Today!

The young human Jamie got his upper braces today. I got a little artistic with his photograph.

He had the doctor put rubber bands on in his school colors.

Mom got him a strawberry milkshake and a Naproxen pain reliever. I am going to be Nanny Dog for the rest of the day.

Got a smile to share?

7/15/15 Hello, Again! Chit-Chat Blog

Woof! I’ve been away for a few days, and I hope I’ve caught up with everyone’s comments and good wishes.

The Young Human Jamie is doing very well and barely limping. This could be because he got “spacers” put in between his back teeth in anticipation of getting braces next Friday. (“Brace yourself!” he says). Mom says the brain can only handle so much pain at once and that is probably why his foot feels better. She is going to take him for another X-ray before school starts. Just to make sure everything is up to snuff. Speaking of school, Jamie got his Chromebook for his Sophomore year, and he is very excited not to have to carry so many textbooks. Makes back-to-school a bit easier, I guess!

We’ve had a spate of rotten weather, and today was nice enough that I was able to lie out and relax a while:

Mom said my collar was looking a tad shabby so she got me a new one, red with reflective paws. I like it! (Picture to follow).

Mom and Jamie have continued cleaning and organizing things. (Mom says, “Vanessa, my cabinets are still a wreck – !” whatever that means.) Today, they took a bag full of dog goodies to the Animal Welfare League, where I used to live, and a large bag of donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. This is in preparation for Mr. Bourke coming with his friend tomorrow to paint the front hallway, where Mom and Jamie cannot reach. Naturally, I will be in the crate as I cannot be underfoot with the big ladder being out and all.

No, you are not seeing things. Zeus the Fiat did not shrink, nor did a 50-foot feline grace our driveway. Jamie was out with his remote-control car, and this “swamp kitty” moseyed over to check out the little apparatus.

I’m in the house with my new collar on, and Mom looked out the window and exclaimed, “Look at that cat!” I’m all, “What cat?” Because I had a good spot on the couch, you see.

I finally got off the couch to check out the kitty, but it was sashaying away, back to the swamp.

Foiled again!

Jamie had a pool party on the (only) other nice day we’ve had. I was a good girl and behaved myself, although Mom and Dad kept me mostly in the crate so I would not jump on anyone. But I hardly cried, mostly just observed what was going on, and soon Mom had me outside on the tether. Then she and Dad played some “Frisbee”, and let me tell you, I love that game. I am very good at snatching it up out of the air. We played for a while, then it was time to take the kids home.

Mostly, it’s been a decent week. I even got a visit from Laurel and her young human today. I’ll keep you posted on the painting project. This should be good.

2/11/15 News Update

We’ve been having kind of sketchy computer service. So I have to tell you what’s been going on!

Mom entered herself and me in the 2016 Pinups for Pitbulls Model search! We had a little photo shoot in the basement and everything! Jamie was in charge of treats for making me sit still and Dad took the pictures with his phone. Then he had a really difficult time getting them dowloaded since the computer has been acting up like crazy!

Pinups for Pitbulls is a non-profit organization whose mission is to educate against BSL and end discrimination against all breeds of dogs. Well, that’s part of their mission, anyway. Their “pinup girl and dog” calendar is their main way of making money. If we win the contest, we go to Philadelphia for a professional photo shoot! We will know by March 15 if we are winners or not. Mom hopes at least one of us goes, just to help this fantastic organization!

On the book front, Maggie: A Shelter Dog Finds Her Home has been submitted to 21 publishing houses by our great agent! We have had a few rejections already; however, we have quite a way to go as far as possibilities, and as Nancy says, “We only need one”! Paws crossed for a book deal to happen soon! Mom has two more books on the back burner and one in-process. They are geared for grades K-2.

My young master Jamie has finally regained his health and went to the dentist today. He got a great checkup, except for the fact that he needs braces! Brace yourself…

The humans went out with their dear friends the Serafins the other night. Mom got an early Valentine’s Day gift from them and she gave me the lovely pink ribbon:

I think I look all festive for Valentine’s Day!

Woof! Love, Maggie (hopefully a pinup Pit)
