4/24/14 Painting to Music

The humans Jamie and Mom continued to toil away today at the painting of the ceiling.

They took turns choosing music to listen to while doing the job.  Mom went first and chose some Blink-182 “surf punk” music.  I liked it!  The driving guitars made me feel frisky.  So I ate a clean paintbrush.  Jamie heard me crunching away while Mom rolled the paint across the ceiling.  Foiled again!

Then it was Jamie’s turn to pick the tunes.  Jamie (DJ McMassacre) likes EDM, or Electronic Dance Music.  Mom likes it just fine, and they painted while jamming to the club beats of Bastille, Skrillex, Fonix, and the like.  I liked this music as well, (they didn’t blast it too loudly), and I did my part to help by chewing up the paper dropcloth, hiding under the ladder, and licking any faces that came into my line of fire.  But, when I stole Jamie’s shoe, Mom threatened to put me in the crate for a cool-off.  She’d had enough of my shenanigans!

So I decided to cool off myself.

The ceiling is now finished, and the humans are going to move on to painting the walls.  All told, they painted the ceiling that flows from the kitchen, to the eat-in area, to the living room.  It took almost 3 gallons of paint and nine and a half hours.  Dad says the ceiling hadn’t been painted and it was “thirsty”.  Jamie and Mom used a special paint with primer built-in that was low VOC.  It was still a huge job.  I’m so proud of them!  Mom says the walls should be easier, but she’s not holding her breath.

As for me, I can’t wait to hear more music!  Woof!  Love, Maggie

5/27/13 Memorial Day

Oh, boy!  Today is a holiday, so I have the whole family to myself again!

Erik and Jenny came over and we had another little party, this time for Memorial Day.  I wasn’t afraid of the music today.  Dad cooked all kinds of good-smelling meat on the fire outside, and we all played in the backyard.  My favorite part of the day was the morning.  Dad hung up a screen door thing so that I can go in and out of the house by myself!  Once I figured out how to use it, I ran in and out of the house all day long.

I have even started going into the yard to go potty by myself.  I don’t feel so scared and alone anymore.  I am feeling more independent.

There was a huge rainstorm at night, but my humans were so tired, that they slept right through it.  But not me.  I was up for the whole thing.  Scary!  I’m very glad I have a bed in the same room(s) as my people.

5/21/13 The Party

Today was kind of a strange day.  When Mom took Jamie to school, she locked me in my crate instead of taking me for the ride with her!  She said it was to protect us both.

Later, Laurel came over to sit with me and Jamie while Mom, Erik, and Jenny went out for a while.  When everyone came home, including Dad, that’s when all the noise started.  I guess it was Erik’s birthday today, and the humans had a little party, which I was not used to!

First, they played games around the kitchen table and laughed a lot.  Then, they ordered good-smelling food in flat boxes that a strange man brought to the front door.  After that, they had a nice-looking cake that they started on fire, and then they tore up a lot of paper.  They played some noisy music, and danced and sang, which scared and confused me.  The whole thing was loud and distracting.  I didn’t know what to do since I had never seen them acting this way.

After a while, everybody left and it was time for bed.  My people were still smiling.  I think the party made the humans happy.
