6/25/15 Collector or Hoarder?

The cleaning in the spare room continues.

Mom is trying to keep this overwhelming job doable by cracking it up into smaller chunks. Mom and Jamie devise a “game plan” for the day, decide exactly what they are going to go through, and set a time limit to do it in.

Today, Jamie and Mom tackled The Big Lego Bin, Games, and Cars.

You see, the Big Lego Bin had been acting as a “catch all” for Lego parts, half-destroyed Lego creations, and Lego people that had become separated from their environments. So, Jamie and Mom sat on the floor and placed all the large pieces in plastic gallon Ziploc bags, then moved on to the small, itty-bitty pieces and bagged them up, then on to the people. Mom had specific feelings for the Lego people, and didn’t want any left behind or thrown away in the confusion. I think she’s seen “The Lego Movie” one time too many!

Mom and Jamie then placed all the bags of Legos neatly in the bin, and moved it to the corner of the room.

Jamie then went through his games, rubber-banding the boxes of the ones he was donating (Mom was in charge of the donations bag), and stacking the others he was keeping neatly in the hallway for the time being. I went exploring where the games had been.

I’ve actually never seen this part of the room before.

Mom and Jamie took a much-needed break for a refreshing beverage and then went back to work.

The humans moved on to Cars. Cars, cars, everywhere. They placed all the loose cars they could find in a bin to be stored neatly away, under the bed. Mom said not to put the car bin away yet, though, since they have more sorting and organizing to do tomorrow, and she is sure they will find more cars:

Dizzying, isn’t it? Jamie has been hanging on to some of these cars since he was about 3. I’m sure there are some collector’s items in there, but he’s not parting with anything! Hence my question: Collector or Hoarder? There is still a lot of work that remains!!

PLEASE tell me we are done for the day!

1/24/15 Big Toy

Mom and Jamie went out and bought me a Big Toy. It’s a very large tennis ball on a tough, knotted rope. I am loving it and having a fun time!

We got up to the 40’s the last couple of days, and most of the snow melted. Then it froze, so now the backyard has a thick coating of ice in spots.

I could hear a cat in the woods meowing her head off. I’ve seen her around lately. She’s a feral cat, and we think she is in heat. Mom throws chicken scraps out for the cats. I get jealous of that.

Anyway, I could hear her before the humans heard her, so I pretended like I had to use the bathroom. Once they opened the back door, I ran out through the sweet spot in the fence and into the woods to give chase to the cat.

Jamie jammed his shoes on his feet and tried to catch me, but the ice in the yard confounded him. He was persistent though, and found me on the other side of the swamp. Foiled again!

Mom was angry, and told me to lie down. She says that in the spring, they are going to reinforce the fence.

I am going to lie down for a while and then try to coax Mom with the Big Toy and a friendly game of tug-o-war.

PS – I think I frightened off the cat.

1/20/15 It’s the Hairy Bullet!

The weather has warmed up and I’m feeling fresh n’ frisky. I can attest to being fresh as I just had a bath. You know what happens when I don’t have my collar on…BAM! The Hairy Bullet Rises!

I have been capering around the house like a giant puppy. Fortunately, Jamie cannot stay mad at me, which is good, because I have been giving him a Rough Ride lately. He has a name for a new game that I made up, the “Schnoz and Grab”.

In this game, I crack open Jamie’s bedroom door just enough to allow my nose to poke in. Then, unbeknownst to him, I snatch a shoe (or whatever else is lying there), and quickly back out into the  hallway for a satisfying chew. I have fooled him a number of times with my Hairy Stealth, but the last time, he caught me. Like I said, good thing he doesn’t stay mad.

Laurel came by and took me for a walk. Far from calming me down, it wound me up. When she unsnapped the lead, I saw Mom and made a mad dash for her and Pounce! I hit her full force in the abdomen with my front paws. She sat down on the couch fast, with an “ooof” sound. Mom wasn’t mad, either. But Laurel told me I should have been more careful.

Then, of course, there was the “blanket incident”:

‘Nuff said, I guess.

Finally, while in hot pursuit of a chew toy, I rocketed up the stairs, careened off the side of the wall, and whacked into Jamie with such force that I knocked him down almost a flight. Mom was alarmed by the loud thumping and bumping noises coming from above her head, and worried that Jamie might have broken something. But he was OK, and I got my toy, so it all ended up fine – right???

I hope the rest of the week is nice. My humans understand that I’m just a little stir crazy right now.

I’m sure we all are!

12/9/14 Multitasking

Women are great at multitasking. I see Mom doing at least 3 jobs at once while Dad pokes along in the kitchen, bent on one thing at a time.

Here’s MY idea of multitasking: Chewing my toy while getting my soft belly rubbed!

You can’t see Jamie rubbing my belly and taking the pic at the same time.

Here’s to a productive day!
