2/14/15 A Valentine’s Day True Story

You may remember our human, Mike. He is the oldest human child (from Dad’s starter marriage) and lives in the big city.

Mike and his friend, Angel, were in a terrible car accident today which involved 18-20 vehicles including a semi truck. They escaped with minor bruises and injuries. Angel’s car is beyond totaled. Truly it was not their time.

This is what happened: the couple were en route to Springfield when they passed rural farm areas. It snowed this morning, and (with only the flat plains around) the wind whipping up turned the expressway very suddenly into whiteout conditions. Since it had been dry, people were whizzing up and down the expressway and had no room to maneuver when the whiteout hit.

Angel’s car was hit and sent spinning to the middle of the road. Unable to see, Mike and Angel got out and went to another car for assistance. After exiting the vehicle, it was hit numerous times. The car they got into was hit three more times. Thank God for Good Samaritans! Someone in the pileup was not so lucky and was airlifted to the hospital. We had some tense moments, but everyone on our end is now back at home safe and sound, although banged up and bruised quite a bit. Our thoughts are with the others involved in this accident.

So that was our Valentine’s Day gift of nail-biting.

On a happier note, Mom gave me a lovely, juicy bone for Valentine’s Day and says I am her sweetheart. I love my family! I took the bone nicely from Mom (no snapping) and chowed down.

Dad is making Mom her favorite meal of Black Pepper Tofu. The dish includes shallots, garlic, green onions, jalapenos, and ginger, amongst other things. The house smells delicious.

Last night, Mom made Dad and Jamie a roast beef and I got some of the gravy.

Wishing all of you a safe, happy, Valentine’s Day and lots of love from me to you!

2/11/15 News Update

We’ve been having kind of sketchy computer service. So I have to tell you what’s been going on!

Mom entered herself and me in the 2016 Pinups for Pitbulls Model search! We had a little photo shoot in the basement and everything! Jamie was in charge of treats for making me sit still and Dad took the pictures with his phone. Then he had a really difficult time getting them dowloaded since the computer has been acting up like crazy!

Pinups for Pitbulls is a non-profit organization whose mission is to educate against BSL and end discrimination against all breeds of dogs. Well, that’s part of their mission, anyway. Their “pinup girl and dog” calendar is their main way of making money. If we win the contest, we go to Philadelphia for a professional photo shoot! We will know by March 15 if we are winners or not. Mom hopes at least one of us goes, just to help this fantastic organization!

On the book front, Maggie: A Shelter Dog Finds Her Home has been submitted to 21 publishing houses by our great agent! We have had a few rejections already; however, we have quite a way to go as far as possibilities, and as Nancy says, “We only need one”! Paws crossed for a book deal to happen soon! Mom has two more books on the back burner and one in-process. They are geared for grades K-2.

My young master Jamie has finally regained his health and went to the dentist today. He got a great checkup, except for the fact that he needs braces! Brace yourself…

The humans went out with their dear friends the Serafins the other night. Mom got an early Valentine’s Day gift from them and she gave me the lovely pink ribbon:

I think I look all festive for Valentine’s Day!

Woof! Love, Maggie (hopefully a pinup Pit)

2/14/14 Valentime’s Day and 2/15/14, The Pet-icure

Two blogs for the price of one today since my computer is still acting up:

2/14/14 Valentime’s Day

We celebrated Valentime’s Day.  Mom got her exact replica scarf of the one I chewed a hole in last week  She was very, very, happy.  I glanced up at the table and saw the scarf in her hand, and gave her a knowing Pitbull smile, but she picked it up far over my head and said, “No way!” I think she is on to me.

I got a Dingo rawhide bone (with meat in the middle!) and a whole can of Pedigree Chicken & Rice with some dry food mixed in.  I was a fat and happy girl!

It was when I was prancing around for a (further) treat that Mom noticed something wrong with my paws.  I had cracked one nail badly and the other was about taken off.  Mom immediately called Dr. W.’s office and scheduled me in for the next morning.  Which brings us to 2/15/15, The Pet-icure.

I had never had a pet-icure before.  Usually, my nails are short from running around outside and taking long walks.  However, with the snow piled up and 3 to 6 more inches expected tomorrow throughout the day, my time of running around outside is nil.

Mom figures I broke the nails during one of my Hairy Bullet escapades, running through the house, sliding across the kitchen floor and BAM! Into a cabinet or wall.

Mom put on her coat and I started my usual hide under the table skulk.  I was so surprised when she called me out to Zeus with her!  I was happy; I like the little car.  We took the quick trip to Dr. W.’s and, as usual, I was overwhelmed and overjoyed at the variety of smells and the niceness of the humans who work there.  They are always happy to see me!

A nice young lady took my lead off and put a nylon halter over my head.  Mom waited in the People Room, and the nice lady said, “Don’t worry, Mom’s right outside.”  They put me on a big scale/table thing and one person watched my head while the other person clipped my nails.  She was very careful on the 4th and 5th digits (as she called them) because that’s where the breakage was.  She put a little medicine on for pain (I didn’t have any) because part of the quick is showing on one of the cracked ones, but unless I start hurting or swelling, I will be fine.

I was out of there in 15 minutes, with everyone praising me and telling me I was a good girl.

Mom took me home, let me out, and gave me a hug and a treat.  The pet-icure was not bad at all!

I hope everyone had a very Happy Valentime’s Day, and that all you humans got wet food and a Dingo treat, too!

Woof!

2/11/14 Guest Blogger: Jamie – A Swashbuckling Day at School

Maggie has been sleeping on her blanket all day, and she said I could take over blogging for tonight.  So, hopefully, the WP community will get a pleasant surprise:  Me!

Today I will be sharing with you a swashbuckling day in the life of myself.  You can decide for yourself how much swagger I actually have at the end.

I got up at 7:30 a.m. today to the sound of my Mom’s voice, the jingling of collar tags, and Slurp!  a wet flap of leather against my cheek – no, that was just Maggie’s tongue.  OK, OK, I’m up already!

I seem to have inherited my Padre’s terminal stiffness because I fumbled around like Frankenstein a little bit, then when my legs finally decided to work, I headed downstairs.  I ate a bowl of Apple Cheerios mixed with Double Chocolate Krave.  Mmmm, tastes like apples dipped in Nutella.  And if that’s not enough to make you hurl, it’s time to get ready for school.

While getting dressed, I listen to a little bit of my favorite band, “Knife Party”, on my new “Beats Mixrs”.  I love my headphones.  The sound quality is awesome, the bass is beautiful, and…they’re shiny.  The kids at school recoil when I tell them that my favorite kind of music is techno and dubstep.  They say it’s not real music, that music made with computers is fake, then they turn around and listen to “Rush” or some other oldie.  You wouldn’t believe what people say to me about that.  But I say, I don’t want to listen to my Grandpa’s music, I’m me.

Not much to say about school today.  They announced on the big PA In The Sky that the Honor Society will be selling “Heart Grams”.  A Heart Gram is a small piece of cheap construction paper that  you send to another student for Valentine’s Day.  It also comes with a cheap lollipop, like the kind you get if you’ve been good at the doctor’s office.

I really don’t know if I should send one to anyone.  On the other hand, I highly doubt I will get one this year.  When it comes to the ladies, I am not a very lucky guy at this point in time.  I’m not a mean person, but many of the chicks like the big, (dumb), sweaty guys that really seem to plague our school.  These dudes are (drumroll please)…The Jocks.  As with most cliche grade school stories, the girls never go for the kind, level-minded nerds like me (until we make a lot of money), but they do go for Jocks.

Sometimes, I’m a bit miffed that my friend Libby isn’t in my class.  She and I are like a mirror of each other.  Anyway, about making a lot of money…I’m in the running for “First To Be A Millionaire” in the yearbook.  The suspense is killing me!

Nothing happened in Math today, which is just as well.  Proportions, percentages, and a bunch of other garbage that you probably won’t ever have to use outside of school.  Today was also Art Day, so I got to spend forty minutes making decorations for the upcoming Jr. High Dance (which I do not have a date for).  I also got to write my name in really snazzy slanty letters that actually looked pretty cool.

I got some papers back and was really bummed about two grades that I got.  My parents were OK with it, so it could have been worse.  If I wasn’t worried about the Terms of Agreement on WP, I’d have some choice words to say though.

Not much else happened until we were changing classes, and, swept along by what was like a stampede at a concert, I was body-surfed into a slush puddle, nearly slipping and getting trampled.  I came out of it OK except for some ice water sloshing into my shoe.

Mom and Maggie came to pick me up from school today and I was really glad to see them.  Mom brought me a Capri Sun to drink and I dropped the straw between the mechanical parts of the seat.  Drat.

Anyway, to wrap things up:  judging by my boring day, my horrid grades, my lack of a date, the hour’s worth of homework, and the fact that I almost died in the Slush Puddle Incident, today could have been worse.  Today wasn’t as bad as yesterday, which was much the same, with the addition of getting nailed in the face with a basketball in Gym.

I’m just glad play practice isn’t tonight.  We’re doing “Willy Wonka” and I’m an Oompa Loompa.  Enough said!

Your friend,

Jamie

2/2/14 The Scarf

Mom owns a beautiful, soft, wool and cashmere blend scarf that is her favorite possession.  Mom has taken great care of the scarf.  Dad gave it to her for Valentine’s Day some years ago (that could account for its softness, besides the blend of materials) and she really treasures it.

I know all of this because she told me last night after I jumped up and snatched it off the back of the chair and took it to my place on the stairs and chewed a big hole in it before she could stop me.

The scarf is totally ruined.  Mom is devastated and angry.

Now I am ashamed of myself.  Mom isn’t talking to me.

Dad says he will replace the scarf, but Mom is still upset.  I’m in the doghouse big-time.

(tail droops) Love, Maggie
